What is actually happening
The cause sits below the surface.
Collagen and elastin are the scaffolding that holds skin up. Adults lose roughly 1 percent of their collagen every year after 25, and the rate accelerates through menopause. Less scaffolding means skin has less to hold onto, so it migrates downward. That migration is what reads as jowls and a heavy jawline.
